"I think the most important thing is to listen to Indian people and their experience with it […] I'm perfectly willing to step aside. It just feels like the right thing to do to me." ...

Hank Azaria on The Simpsons' Apu controversy: 'I'm willing to step aside'
theguardian.com
The actor, who voices the role, says he could be replaced by an Indian or south Asian actor and called for more diverse voices in the show’s writing room
The funny thing is that he's one of the few smart and normal characters on the show, without any ludicrous mental deficiencies or colossal personality flaws, and in his interactions with others he's usually the sensible voice of reason. By the standards of Simpsons characters, he's actually a positive depiction. You know... compared to the problem alcoholics at Moe's, the pervert bartender, the uncaring cynical teachers at the school, the bowed principle in thrall to his overbearing mother, the over-the-top born-again Christian stereotypes next door, the ridiculous "Scottish" groundskeeper, the evil corporate businessman, the shyster doctor, the fat donut-devouring incompetent cop, the corrupt mayor and on and on... Apu is comparatively a paragon of virtue most of the time (except for that one episode where he sold dodgy food items). Is the objection that his voice is done stereotypically like Willy's and Akira's and the Sea Captain's and the Rich Texan's and Cletus's, etc etc etc...?
Retire the simpsons. It’s time.
So actors are only allowed to play their own nationality now?
Ffs just about every character is stereotyped on the Simpsons
The whole premise of the show is taking a cheeky look at exaggerated stereotypes. Flanders is the religious man, groundskeeper willie is scottish, homer is the white male at the head of a nuclear family, etc. I think these criticisms are way off the mark and ridiculous. I haven't heard these other groups carrying on about it, and they're often portrayed in a far less endearing light.
Storm in a teacup, whipped up by a moronic, failed "comedian" desperate for attention. Apu ALWAYS ends up empowered at the end of each episode.
I think Indian people gives a shit on this .. They have other things to do rather watching this cartoon

Strange isn't that those Yank Actors we think are Yanks aren't in fact yanks. But are either Brits or instead Aussies who have been trained like Gibson and others in those roles for years now. Im sure indians dont give a shit honestly!

Loneliness linked to major life setbacks for millennials, study says
theguardian.com
Lonely millennials found to be more likely to have mental health problems and be out of work
In the sentence "Lonely millennials are more likely to have mental health problems, be out of work and feel pessimistic about their ability to succeed in life..." the word 'millennials' should be replaced by 'people'.
So people who are isolated are more likely to be depressed than people who aren’t. Thanks Sherlock.

"We will never forget." The French prime minister delivered a powerful, emotional speech at Villers-Bretonneux in honour of the Anzacs:
"Looking at the names of the 11,000 Australians who died for France and for freedom, I could not help thinking of the terrible loneliness which these thousands of young Australians must have felt as their young lives were cut short in a foreign country."
#LestWeForget ...
Read the speech in full: "We will never forget that 100 years ago a young and brave nation on the other side of the world made history by writing our history" www.theguardian.com/news/commentisfree/2018/apr/25/the-earth-is-his-only-friend-french-prime-mini...
Malcom certainly didn't deliver a Paul Keating speech, felt sorry for him, it was boring, sack his speech writers! It won't go down in history, but the French prime ministers was beautiful, well thought out, historically accurate and powerful!❤️
The French Prime Minister seems to have a better grasp on the meaning and sanctity of Anzac Day than the commentariat at the ABC. His intonements at Villers-Bretonneux pay due respect to the Australians who gave their lives for France and freedom.
"We cannot relive these stories. The mud, the rats, the lice, the gas, the shellfire, the fallen comrades, we can never truly imagine what it was like. " Such a telling statement. He did an incredible job with this speech, which has been repeatedly shown here in France. As a French citizen and an Australian citizen, I thank Édouard Philippe for delivering this speech/eulogy.
$100 million to build the war memorial in France $500 million to renovate the war memorial in Canberra Money spent on remembering the dead while living veterans are homeless and living in poverty. I want a memorial to my family members who fought in that terrible war, I want a system of trenches dug into some muddy cold barren field. I want it filled with rats, lice, fleas, mud, damp, the rusty wire, the human sewage the stench of cordite gas and death. Fill the air with the constant noise of bullets bombs and the screams of the wounded and dying. I want anyone who takes office as a politician to live in this trench for a month, eating the rations and wearing the clothes of our diggers. No champaign, no polished floors, no climate controlled environment, no slick audiovisual production. Just the reality of what happens when politicians fail to do what they are paid to do. Lest we forget.
He was the best and most moving speaker on the day...

Donald J. Trump's very public show of brushing invisible dandruff off Emmanuel Macron’s shoulder was hardly innocent, writes Arwa Mahdawi. "One suspects Trump has been planning this power play for a while." ...

Trump gave Macron a taste of his bizarre 'dandruff diplomacy'
theguardian.com
Standing together on a world stage, Trump took a moment to flick off ‘a little piece of dandruff’ off Macron’s shoulder. That was hardly innocent
This is the clown that said he was going to rule like Jupiter. It's fucking hilarious. Trump is the greatest shit stirrer of all time.
Daily reminder:
This is what military support in Syria gets you. Kisses on da cheek, grooming services and holding hands. :-D Wondering what Teresa May is gonna get... <3
Talking down to the boy! Scumbag!
An old man wants to let the young man know who's top dog.
"It could also be possible, of course, that Trump has zero impulse control and says and does whatever pops into his mind." You got it, that is exactly what's happening. There's no reason trying to find strategy in his actions.
Disappointed that Macron didnt get out a wet washer to try and help Trump remove all his make up and fake tan.
It would be funny if it wasn't so sad and pathetic. When is this 70+ yr old going to just grow up.
Yes it was disgusting. Even if it were true (and I doubt that) it is the height of rudeness. I have NEVER seen another President do this. Shows how crass he is.
I found the wholw thing disrespectful. He was trying to humiliate the Frenchman
Cringe worthy. 😣No diplomacy there.....surprise surpise!!
I would have ruffled Trumps hair in reply and called him an ragamuffin. He seems like a guy who would really hate to have his hair touched...
Yeah funny Donald. Real funny. I guess you'll pull out your killer fart jokes next? Maybe pretend to vomit in his wife's handbag? What a laugh from the so-called "leader of the free world".
I can see the tweet now: "Low-energy Macron, dandruff on his shoulder. Dirty French. So disrespectful. DISGUSTING!"
Poor Trump can’t see that Macron is doing anything and everything to manipulate him - and it’s clearly working. 👍
Trump had his intel boys run the ruler over Macron months ago and came up with ultimate power play, dandruff diplomacy. Great article Arwa, there is obviously nothing happening in your world right at this moment of more importance.
A leader of nothing who has no manners!
How sick is that?
You have class to sell Trump!
The bully trying to intimidate Macron.
Macron should have kicked the fat slug in his tiny balls.
What a petty little prick.

Here, in full, is the French PM's moving, powerful speech at Villers-Bretonneux, paying tribute to Anzac troops.
"We will never forget their courage, we will never forget that they sacrificed their young, happy and peaceful lives to experience the horrors of war thousands of miles from their homes when they had no obligation to do so. We will never forget that 100 years ago a young and brave nation on the other side of the world made history by writing our history. Lest we forget."

Australia screams never forget, people strut about with medals they didnt earn, racists and "patriots" have a field day on anzac day but meanwhile veterans are homeless or suicidal and nobody cares.

The rise of Russia’s neo-Nazi football hooligans
theguardian.com
The long read: For the past two decades the Russian state has encouraged groups of violent far-right fans. As the World Cup approaches, it is struggling to tame them. By Simon Parkin
Always painting Russia as an evil nation. Why can't we put down our differences and come together as one people. We have only one world and the same blood runs through our bodies. Let's love ourselves.
Neanderthals
"Stay safe.....socceroos fans", so when they come back are you going to talk to some fans about seeing so called nazi's in russia or will we get RT to do it. Instead of reporting on phantoms how about report actual holligans like I don't know the incident between Roma and Liverpool boofheads, heard lives were threatened. Oh yeah it's actually against the law for people to parade nazi memorabilia in russia so good luck looking for that stuff.
Be careful... I care very much about this!
What about the Nazis that we’re installed in Ukraine... No mention by the Guardian.... Nazi tools
Man made diseases to wiped out the aboriginals people now that's neo-nazi
